Wayne's World (movie, 1992)

About This Movie / Film

Released on February 14, 1992, Wayne's World is a cultural phenomenon directed by Penelope Spheeris and produced by Lorne Michaels. Based on the popular Saturday Night Live sketch, the film follows two rock-and-roll fans, Wayne Campbell (played by Mike Myers) and Garth Algar (played by Dana Carvey), who broadcast a public-access cable show from a basement in Aurora, Illinois. When a slick television executive, Benjamin Kane (played by Rob Lowe), discovers their show and offers them a professional contract, the duo must navigate the pitfalls of commercialism while Wayne falls for the talented rock singer Cassandra Wong (played by Tia Carrere). Distributed by Paramount Pictures, the film became an instant classic, famous for its breaking of the fourth wall, "Bohemian Rhapsody" sing-alongs, and enduring catchphrases. It remains the highest-grossing film based on an SNL skit to date.
