Released on July 2, 2003, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines marks the explosive return of the franchise under director Jonathan Mostow. Produced by C2 Pictures and Intermedia Films, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film follows a 25-year-old John Connor, played by Nick Stahl, who lives "off the grid" to evade Skynet. The timeline is shattered when the T-X, a lethal and advanced female Terminator portrayed by Kristanna Loken, is sent back to eliminate Connor and his future lieutenants, including Kate Brewster, played by Claire Danes. Arnold Schwarzenegger reprises his iconic role as the T-850, a reprogrammed Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 sent by the resistance to protect them. The film explores the inevitability of Judgment Day, moving the series toward a darker, apocalyptic conclusion. With massive set pieces and a score by Marco Beltrami, this entry solidified the Terminator legacy in the new millennium.
