The REAL Reason Why Their Music Is FREE

We've all seen it. We've all been on FaceBook, Twitter, InstaGram, and (formerly) Myspace during those special moments when some musician(s) we've never heard of sends us a link to their music. And you may quickly notice a pattern. You'll notice that the link(s) almost always says it's from soundcloud, bandcamp, hotnewhiphop, datpiff, zippyshare, or something of that nature.

If you're wondering why (out of all the sites available) they have chosen those specific sights to upload and share their music, here's the cold-hard-truth -- IT'S BECAUSE IT'S FREE. You see, these musicians, whether they brag about themselves or not, are skeptical and embarrassed at the very thought of whether or not they are going to be able to actually sell records. Most of them will never admit this but, they aren't willing to pay for REAL marketing, promotional, and distribution services (like the services that ADED.US Music Distribution offers) because they don't think their music is good enough to recoup the amount of money they invested into marketing, promoting, and distributing it.

Now, they may come up with some bullish!t excuse about WHY their music is available for free as opposed to available for sale. You might here them blather about "well I just want to get my music out there" or "I'm just doing this for the streets". But, make no mistake, they are full of sh!t. Because everyone in the world wants to make money and if they could get rich by selling their own music they'd do it in heartbeat. So, here's some things you can tell these cheapskate musicians to give them a little perspective:

You have no faith in your music. If you did, you'd be selling it
You claim your only releasing your music on free platforms to "get it out there"... for exposure, but you'd get a LOT more exposure if your music was listed in the major digital retail outlet stores such as iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play, Rdio, Slacker Radio, etc.
You claim you have fans and supporters, but if they were given the opportunity to actually BUY your music, they wouldn't... and you're scared of that.
You don't won't to be embarrassed. You don't want your illusion to fade away because you can't make record sales.
You say it costs to much to promote, market, and distribute your music -- but what you're really saying -- is that you don't think you'd break even. You don't think you'd make enough record sales to make up for the amount of money you've spent on marketing, promoting, and distributing your music

Again, it all comes back to having FAITH in yourself and your ability to sell records. In reality, you should be looking at the amount of exposure you'd be getting from these services instead of whether or not you'll recoup.

Now, the funny thing is, a LOT of these musicians want a record deal. But why would a record label sign you and front all the money for your project... when you don't even have enough faith in YOURSELF to sell your own records???
